Reference range
No growth of pathogenic bacteria (results reported as organism identification with colony count estimation). Normal/expected results vary by wound type and clinical context; commensal skin flora may be reported as such without clinical significance.N/A
No special patient preparation required. The collection site should be cleaned and debrided of surface exudate prior to specimen collection. Deep wound specimens should be obtained from viable tissue at the base or margin of the wound, ideally before initiation of antibiotic therapy or just before the next antibiotic dose if therapy has already commenced.
